Soil health is the foundation of organic farming systems. Fertile soil provides essential nutrients to plants, while supporting a diverse and active biotic community that helps the soil resist environmental degradation. Organic producers face unique challenges in managing soil productivity. Therefore, the soil fertility project, funded by the Federal Organic Farming Programme (BÖL) and under coordination of the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture, researchers from different organisations and academic disciplines work together.
The soil fertility project runs from August 2009 until December 2011. Further information is available from our German website and at www.bodenfruchtbarkeit.org
