Karl
Werner Kieffer (1912 - 1995) received his degree in Industrial Engineering
from the Technical University of Berlin. For two decades he worked as a manager
of a large company, until in 1973 at the age of 61 he moved on to the Supervisory
Board. Mr Kieffer then devoted his time and energy to his foundation established
in 1961 with his private funds. In the first years, the work was mainly focussed
on the promotion of education and health, since the mid-seventies, issues
of medium technology and organic farming were also adressed.
In memory of its founder Karl Werner Kieffer, the Foundation Ecology & Agriculture (SÖL) established the "Karl-Werner-Kieffer-Award" in 1996 Karl Werner Kieffer Award.
Dagi
Kieffer (b. 1925) grew up in a South-Palatine estate, was a foreign language
secretary and is mother of four children. She supported her husband with the
Foundation work from the beginning. Her main concerns and area of work has
since then been mainly with organic farming. For many years, starting in the
1970s, Mrs Kieffer was on the Board of the International Federation of Organic
Agriculture Movements (IFOAM). In 1977 she took over the publication of the
magazine Ecology & Farming.
Since 1975 Dagi Kieffer has been a member of the SÖL Board of Trustees and since 1999 she has been the chair of the the Foundations Management Council.
