Karl Werner Kieffer

Karl Werner Kieffer Portrait, © SÖLKarl Werner Kieffer (1912 - 1995) received his degree in Industrial Engineering from the Technical University of Berlin. For two decades he worked as a manager of a large company, until in 1973 at the age of 61 he moved on to the Supervisory Board. Mr Kieffer then devoted his time and energy to his foundation established in 1961 with his private funds. In the first years, the work was mainly focussed on the promotion of education and health, since the mid-seventies, issues of medium technology and organic farming were also adressed.

In memory of its founder Karl Werner Kieffer, the Foundation Ecology & Agriculture (SÖL) established the "Karl-Werner-Kieffer-Award" in 1996 Karl Werner Kieffer Award.

Dagi Kieffer

Dagi Kieffer Portrait, ©SÖLDagi Kieffer (b. 1925) grew up in a South-Palatine estate, was a foreign language secretary and is mother of four children. She supported her husband with the Foundation work from the beginning. Her main concerns and area of work has since then been mainly with organic farming. For many years, starting in the 1970s, Mrs Kieffer was on the Board of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM). In 1977 she took over the publication of the magazine Ecology & Farming.

Since 1975 Dagi Kieffer has been a member of the SÖL Board of Trustees and since 1999 she has been the chair of the the Foundation’s Management Council.
